Publication..Why Does It Matter?

Bismillah,

Syukur alhamdulillah masih dikurniakan kekuatan untuk berkongsi pengalaman. N actually nk ganti sebb tadi termissed Usrah. Ampunkan saya duhai Naqib.hehe. Semoga ALLAH terima amalan kita. Ameen.

Seperti biasa setiap hari Jumaat, saya akan menghadiri kelas English di Oxford ni..yeah. it is free and I really enjoy the class. Brush up my english and of cos to meet up more people out there are my 'only' intentions to come to the class. Hehe. Jumaat minggu lepas, antara tugasan yang diberikan adalah membuat pembentangan project to non-specialist audiences. A friend of mine, Vince, another Malaysian in the class have got to introduce me, and purposely read out my background including my list of publications. Alhamdulillah, dorang sgt surprise sbb saya ada satu buku and 3 journals, all are published at the international level. Ok baiklah sebelum saya teruskan, biar saya cerita sedikit environment in oxford in terms of publication.

Basically, disebabkan Oxford ni dah sgt2 established, dorang dah sampai satu stage yg mana commercialisation and practicality of the research outcomes bring more weight than publication. Paling2 pon poster  or conference paper (prestigious one) dah kira ok untuk postgrade students. Kat sini normally journals publication is being carried out by Post Doc staff (and of course they have thousands of post docs here and UTM not)

Suasana dalam kelas Bahasa Inggeris, Oxford University Language Centre .  Lovely Deborah Mason is our lecturer , lady in red blouse.

Ada 14 orang students total

Tapi suasana yg berbeza semasa saya di UTM yg mana policy utk mendptkan publication as many as we can is subjected to as early as post grade students (sebab kita belum ada ramai post doc kot). And I really understand why our VC imposed such policy and I just couldn't agree more. Alhamdulillah saya dah merasai stage ni dari awal..dan sangat membantu penyelidikan PhD saya di Oxford. I could say that I am a bit advance as compared to other post grades here. Tp jgn nk suka sgt sbb bebudak yg lain kat sini sgt kencang..and saya rasa if they got the same chance of publication, they could do way more better than me. Tp alhamdulillah, perancangan ALLAH mmg yg terbaik.. Persediaan sebelum ini banyak membantu saya membina self confidence. My supervisor always said that I tend to exceed his expectation each time I show my progress report. Syukur ya ALLAH, dan ampunkan kami atas segala kekhilafan.

So there you go, don't ever feel burdened by publication stuffs. It is worth doing and a good way to spread out good things. Tidak lupa juga untuk memberi penghargaan kepada dua individu ini yang byk membantu saya dlm publication:
1. Mak abah, sentiasa bagi support..setiap kali saya balik rumah, saya akan duduk di meja makan dengan laptop bagai untuk buat writing stuff..and tup2 atas meja mak sediakan air milo or air teh panas...hehe..n tup2 jugak kereta saya telah dibasuh oleh abah saya.hehe. Jasa mereka tiada tandingan. Doakan kebahagiaan mereka dunia akhirat.
2. My ex-supervisor. Despite being so bz, ada juga masa nk check manuscripts saya yg ntah ape2. huhu. Doakan beliau juga...Prof Madya Ir Dr Mohammed Rafiq.
